From Our Kitchen, With Purpose

Since Just Us! first opened its doors in 1995, food has always been about more than what’s on the plate. Sustainability has been at the core of Just Us! since the beginning. By supporting regenerative organic agriculture and paying fair prices for ingredients, we share responsibility with small-scale farmers in the Global South, enabling them to care for their families, nurture their communities, and steward the lands that sustain them.

Using fair trade, organically grown sugar and chocolate in our kitchen aligns with the values of our co-op. We act in solidarity with small-scale producers in the global south who also work within the co-op model. We promote sustainable, regenerative agricultural practices and hold ourselves to a high standard of excellence by using the best quality ingredients available.

Meet Abby, Our Head Baker

Abby has been baking professionally for over 30 years, but her love for the craft began when she was just 10 years old, experimenting in the kitchen at home. Her philosophy is to bring joy through food, using only real ingredients, and making everything from scratch.

Under Abby’s guidance, the bakery menu is ever-evolving, with a strong focus on flavour, seasonality, and integrity. One of her proudest creations is our carrot cake with whipped cream cheese frosting—a timeless classic, thoughtfully refined to be the best version of itself.

Our Kitchen & Community

All of our baked goods are made on-site at our Grand Pré location by a small but mighty team of four (and growing!). While the gluten-free treats are sourced from our trusted friends at Schoolhouse Gluten Free Bakery, and our bagels come from nearby Grand Pre Bagels, everything else is mixed, rolled, baked, and packaged right here in our kitchen.

We also partner with local producers and suppliers whenever we can: fresh fruit and vegetables from Noggins Farms, honey from Cosman and Whidden, maple syrup from Hutchinson’s Maple, and specialty dry goods from Konrads in Dartmouth—a family-owned business we’re proud to support.
